Why the Cultural Foundation Deserves Your Support

Communities that welcome and celebrate the arts — visual arts, music, drama, dance, comedy, film, and more have been shown to be communities that thrive socially, culturally, and economically.

The Cultural Foundation of Harrison County is working to build such communities here in Harrison County, but we can’t do it without your support. Here are just a few reasons you should consider a contribution to the Cultural Foundation:

  • We are supporting locally-driven projects and gatherings in Clarksburg, Bridgeport, Shinnston, Salem, and Lost Creek that enhance awareness of, and appreciation for, art and culture.
  • We distribute approximately $40,000 in Community Arts Project grants each year as well as two higher education art-related scholarships, each worth $1,000 a year for up to four years.
  • Through the Barbara B. Highland Fund for the Arts, the Cultural Foundation has brought to Harrison County such world-class performances as Branford Marsalis, the Wheeling Symphony, the Smithsonian Jazz Masters Orchestra, STOMP, and so many more over the years. And this fall, we’ll be bringing you author and humorist David Sedaris, Canadian Brass, and the New York Theater Ballet.
  • The Cultural Foundation recently unveiled its first collaborative art exhibit at the Stone Tower Brews Bridgeport store, featuring local artists whose work will be available for purchase. The exhibit will rotate with fresh art every three months.
  • 100% of your contribution goes to our grant, scholarship, or local community programs. We do not use contributions for the Cultural Foundation’s overhead, we have no paid staff, and the Foundation’s mission is achieved by its all-volunteer Board of Directors.
  • Contributing is easy and can be directed by the donor in a variety of ways, including to a specific program or community.

Please consider contributing to Harrison County’s communities and citizens by donating to the Cultural Foundation of Harrison County. We’re not just bringing you entertainment — we’re bringing you healthier, wealthier, and more attractive communities.
