Artist Statement
As a mixed media artist, my creative process focuses on producing fun, spontaneous
paintings that serve as nostalgic time capsules. Each piece features layers of both new and
old materials, showcasing the passage of time throughout layered compositions. I
incorporate thick and thin layers of fabric, paper, and paint, which are glued, scraped, and
poured onto the canvas. This approach allows each composition to become engulfed with
formal elements and imagery that develop into a story from a specific time or interest.
Every layer, whether imagery or paint, trigger curiosity and encourages interest in the
unique processes and materials to make each painting. My work also provides a space to
recycle found materials, collected from daily life and years gone by, giving them renewed
purpose. By responding intuitively to each new application, I am able to develop formal
relationships within the composition that lead to organization and balance, ultimately
bringing each painting to its final resolution.
